Official seal of Naga City |
The Bicol region, specifically the city of Naga and the town of Camalig, serves the pinangat the best, as said by experts and most people who tasted the dish. Pinangat can be found in almost every corner of every market in the region. It is cheap and very affordable to everyone. The dish served as a trademark food of the Bicol region aside from the famous Bicol express.
Most towns in the region serve their own variety of cooking the pinangat. Every variation of pinangat identifies the place where it was prepared. For example, when the pinangat is mostly composed of taro leaves instead of the stuffing, it identified as a pinangat from the town of Camalig. While in the city of Naga, the pinangat mainly focuses on the stuffing; the more stuffing it has, the better. Many more variations of the dish is also present in the entire Philippines.
The selling of the dish became a permanent source of living to some Bicolanos. They help on the preservation of the original taste and style of the pinangat here in Bicol.
